WATCH: Diamond Platinumz’s Performance In Gabon During Opening Ceremony Of AFCON 2017

 

The African Cup Of Nations 2017 for soccer went underway over the weekend in Gabon. As usual, the opening ceremony had a performance from different artists. One of them was Diamond Platinumz from Tanzania with his Wasafi Dancers. Gabon was waiting. He got there right on time.

Before heading to Gabon, he was given the Tanzanian flag by the Minister Of Information, Culture, Artists and Sports (quite a portfolio, right?). It didn’t sit well with some folks. They went online to attack. I guess that was just due to lack of better things to do. Anyway.

His performance was average. I am still not a fan of playback performances at such a big stage. I wish our artists could actually “perform” rather than imitate a performance. All in all, he was there and represented Tanzania and East Africa in general. Tanzania and Kenya are not in this tournament. Uganda Cranes are the sole representative of the East Coast.
